NORM is in early beta. Scores reflect reviewed public marketing claims and visible evidence references — not product efficacy, safety, or regulatory status.

Why it matters

The wellness industry spends
billions teaching you to trust it.
We help you understand what that means.

Every wellness brand website, every "clinically proven" hero headline, every decorative trust badge — designed to feel like evidence. Most of the time, they're not.

NORM doesn't tell you whether a product works. It tells you whether the brand showed their proof. That distinction is everything — because when you know which brands back their claims, you stop spending money on the ones that don't.

68%
of wellness products scanned across supplements, skincare, devices, and wearables carry high-intensity claims with limited or no visible evidence on the page.
$2.1B
spent annually on wellness products consumers later say didn't deliver what the marketing promised — across supplements, skincare, recovery tech, and more. Most had no signal before buying.
Process

Five steps.
Under two seconds.

Fully automated. No manual review. No brand influence at any stage.

01

Page detected

Detects any wellness product page — supplements, skincare, neurotech, recovery devices, wearables, sleep tech, functional food, fitness nutrition, and more. If it makes a health-adjacent claim, we score it.

02

Claims extracted

Every marketing claim is pulled and tagged by location. Hero headlines count 3× more than footer disclaimers — because that's where the money is.

03

Receipts checked

Study links, certifications, dosage panels, and third-party testing are matched against each claim — across the brand's full public domain. Evidence counts wherever it's visible and clearly connected.

04

Score calculated

Six weighted dimensions — blended with AI analysis — produce a single Claim Support Risk score. The full methodology is published publicly.

05

Signal appears

Red, Yellow, or Green. Category rank. One sentence. The gap between what a brand claims and what it visibly supports — measured and on the record.

Signals in action

What you actually
learn from the signal.

The signal is not a product review. It's a proof check — does a brand's visible evidence actually support what it claims?

Green — claims proportionate to evidence
Risk score: 11 / 100
Thorne — Magnesium Bisglycinate
Study links visible3 on page
Third-party testingNSF certified
Claim intensityLow — "supports sleep"
Category rank#1 of 412
"This brand has shown their proof. Claims are proportionate to the evidence they've made visible. You can buy with confidence that the transparency is real — whether the product works for you is still your call."
!
Yellow — partial receipts
Risk score: 38 / 100
Ritual — Essential Protein
Study links visible1 (ingredient-level)
Third-party testingInformed Sport
Claim intensityMedium — "improves recovery"
Category rank#7 of 412
"Some claims have backing, others don't. The ingredient evidence is real, but it's for the ingredient — not necessarily this product at this dose. Worth digging deeper before committing."
Red — claims extend beyond visible support
Risk score: 87 / 100
Neurax — Neural Performance Patch
Study links visibleNone
Third-party testingNot found
Claim intensityHigh — "clinically proven"
Category rank#184 of 412
"This brand is asking you to trust high-intensity claims with no visible evidence to back them up here. The product may still work — but right now, on this page, you're being asked to take their word for it."

NORM scores whether brands show their proof — not whether claims are true or whether the product works. A red signal means ask more questions, not that the product is bad.

Brand payment never changes a score. The only path to a better signal is making stronger evidence visible on your actual product page.
Independence

Scores can't
be bought.

The signal is only worth something if it can't be gamed. Every decision we make is built around protecting that.

No brand payments influence scores

The only path to a better signal is making stronger evidence visible on the actual consumer-facing product page. That creates exactly the market pressure toward transparency that we exist to generate.

Revenue from consumers and data — never from brands being scored

Consumer Pro subscriptions and B2B intelligence products are the entire model. No advertising. No affiliate commissions. No brand-sponsored placements. No scan data sold to the brands we score.

Fully published methodology

All six dimension weights, location multipliers, intensity classifications, and category add-on rules are published publicly. Anyone can audit the scoring. Any brand can understand exactly what drives their signal.

Evidence reviewed, never auto-applied

Brands can submit supporting evidence at any time. Scores update only when that evidence becomes visible on the live consumer-facing page — not when it's submitted to us privately.

Questions

Things people
ask us.

Does a Red signal mean the product doesn't work?
No — and this is the most important thing to understand about NORM. A Red signal means a brand made strong claims without showing you the evidence to back them up on their page. The product might work brilliantly. The ingredient might have decades of research behind it. But right now, on this page, they're asking you to take their word for it. That's worth knowing before you spend $80 a month.
So what does NORM actually tell me?
It measures the gap between what a brand claims and what evidence they visibly connect to those claims. Green means claims appear proportionate to available evidence — support exists and is clearly linked. Yellow means evidence exists, but is not clearly connected to all claims — gaps are present. Red means claims extend beyond visible support — the gap between what is claimed and what is shown is material. Signal does not tell you whether to buy. It shows what holds.
Can a brand pay to improve their signal?
No. Scores are determined solely by what's visible on the consumer-facing product page at time of scan. The Brand Transparency plan ($199/month) shows brands what's driving their signal and lets them submit evidence for review — but paying for that has zero effect on their score. The only path to a better signal is making stronger evidence visible on the actual page consumers visit.
How is the score calculated?
The Claim Support Risk score (0–100) runs across six dimensions: Evidence Alignment (25%), Claim Clarity (15%), Evidence Quality (15%), Consumer Distortion Risk (15%), Claim Strength (10%), and Evidence Accessibility (10%). Each claim is also weighted by where it appears — hero headlines carry 3× more weight than footer disclaimers, because that's where brands put the claims they most want you to believe. High-intensity language like "clinically proven" or "guaranteed" with no visible evidence carries an additional penalty. The complete methodology is published publicly at bhvdsignal.com/methodology.
What data does the extension collect?
The extension reads the text content of health and wellness product pages to extract marketing claims and visible evidence. It sends that extracted text — never your personal data, identity, or browsing history — to our API for scoring. Free users' scan history is retained for 7 days. Pro users retain full history. We never sell scan data to the brands being scored.
I'm a brand with a Red signal — what do I do?
The signal reflects what's visible on your page right now. The fastest path to a better signal is making your evidence more visible — add links to published studies, display your third-party testing certificates, disclose ingredient dosages clearly, and make sure your disclaimer is visible. Our Brand Transparency plan ($199/month) shows you exactly which dimensions are driving your score so you know where to focus. We also accept evidence submissions for human review at any time.
Why it matters

Knowledge in your head.
Money back in your pocket.

The wellness industry spans supplements, skincare, recovery tech, wearables, neurotech, sleep devices, and more. Across every single category, the pattern is the same — marketing language engineered to feel like evidence. Most of the time, it isn't. It's just confident copy.

NORM doesn't tell you whether a product works. It tells you whether the brand showed their proof — before you spend.
